Carte-St-EtienneMaking the city accessible

With on-campus halls of residences, student apartments and flat-sharing, Saint-Etienne offers a wide variety of reasonably-priced accommodation, ideal for the tight student budget. The accommodation costs for a student in Saint-Etienne are half that of the other major university cities!
Getting around is easy too. Travel locally from the city’s railway station (we are just 41 minutes from Lyon) also served by the TGV, our ultra high-speed inter-city service to reach Paris or Marseille in under 3 hours. Get around the town on a network of buses and trams or, if you’re into pedal-power, then we also have the Vélivert, bicycles that you can pick up and drop off at one of the many self-service bike station scattered throughout the city. All the city’s campuses are right at the heart of their respective areas of the city so you’ll never feel cut off from the wider world.

A discovery on every street corner.

Saint Etienne is a city on the move and students love it. Its centre is a vibrant area of shopping opportunities and all the places students love to congregate: bars, pubs, night clubs, restaurants, parks … There is no shortage of cultural opportunities either with its two latest editions to the music scene, Le Fil and the Zenith to rock the night away with your favourite bands. And for something a little quieter, we have an Opera house and theatre, and Museums of Modern Art, Art and Industry and the Mines and the ‘City of Design’ has also become an unmissable venue for culture. Saint Etienne hosts over 40 festivals each year, including the ‘Paroles et Musiques’ and ‘Les 7 collines’ – there is something for everyone. There is also a host of cafe-theatres, bars with live music and clubs where students love to let their hair down! You too will love to live in Saint Etienne.

If you like to give back to the community, then Saint-Etienne has an unparalleled number of charity organisations who would be glad of your helping hands.

Grow green in Saint Etienne

Since 1930, the "Chaudron", the mythical football stadium Geoffroy Guichard has been home to the ‘greens’, our premier-league team, and thrilled generations of supporters. It is currently being renovated and extended in preparation for Euro 2016.

Saint-Étienne is much more than the home of a ‘green ‘football team. It is surrounded by greenery and nestles between the National Park of the Pilat, the gorges of the Loire whose source is not far from Saint Etienne, and the nautical base of Saint Victor. Get out into the countryside and enjoy skiing, canoeing or hiking in the hills or just relax beside the waterside … or stay in town and break up a sweat in one of the 300 sporting clubs in the city.
Something less formal? We also have a skate park, as well as an ice-rink.
