Osteopathy in a few words

Who needs an osteopath ?

  • 35 000 patients have already put their trust in the osteopathy clinic at the CIDO
  • 100 % of patients would be happy to recommend the osteopathy clinic to a friend
  • 100 % of patients intend to return to the osteopathy clinic at the CIDO should the need arise

What is it exactly ?

Osteopathy uses manual manipulation to restore mobility to the tissues while ensuring that the body remains perfectly balanced. After taking an in-depth history of the patient listening attentively to everything the patients says (and communicates wordlessly), the patient then undergoes a painless manual examination to test the mobility of the body. The osteopath acts rather as a mechanic checking that each part is interacting as it should. If this is not the case, then the osteopath can call on a battery of techniques to painlessly re-establish balance among the various parts of the body and so improve the patient’s general health.

The osteopath does not treat illnesses or problems that require medical treatment or surgical intervention but does and can treat many of the body’s functional problems.

The osteopath needs therefore to be able to establish a diagnosis based on the reasons that have brought the patient to the consultation and his medical history. The battery of medical and osteopathic tests then carried out will confirm whether osteopathic treatment is indicated. If this is not the case, then the osteopath will direct his patient to the appropriate health practitioner.

The osteopath’s sphere of action is very varied.

Even if back pain remains the primary motive for consultations, many other problems can also lead people to consult an osteopath. Among them are problems :

  • With the locomotive system : sprains, tendinitis, back pain, pain in the neck, shoulders, arm, knee ...
  • With pain of neurologic origin, like sciatica, cruralgia, intercostal pain, headaches, migraines...
  • Affecting the circulation, venous or lymphatic congestion, haemorrhoids...
  • Affecting digestion, problems of transit, indigestion, gastritis, flatulence...
  • Including rhinitis, sinusitis, vertigo, tinnitus...
  • Affecting diverse functions, hyper anxiety, sleep disorder, depression...
